Highland Bowl (Aspen Highlands, CO)
Skiing Aspen Highland’s eponymous bowl has been a right of passage for every serious skier or boarder in Colorado for decades. Opened in its entirety in 2005, “the bowl” is still only accessed via a 30-minute hike, which helps keep the snow quality top-notch during powder days. From the top of Highlands Bowl you can look down on a skier’s nirvana of steep, wide-open bowls with names like Full Curl, Steep and Deep, White Kitchen, and Ozone. All of them offer lots of vertical and funnel into the same gully. When the bowl is firing there isn’t a bad choice, but going straight off the top of Ozone on a good powder day is the kind of run you’ll tell your grandkids about.
